Oddballs’ Camp

Nestled on the fringe of channels, palms and floodplains, Oddballs’ Camp invites you into a deeper rhythm of the wild. Here, elevated decked tents perch lightly above the ground, an eco-sensitive nod to the shifting waters of the delta. Your personal guide — a local “man of the swamp” — becomes your companion through walking safaris and mokoro journeys. The pace is unhurried. The atmosphere quietly elegant. And you are immersed in a place where the landscape, the wildlife and your own sense of discovery all come together.

At Oddballs’ Camp the story is one of subtle luxury and immersive nature. The camp’s elevated wooden walkways, shaded by canvas shelters and indigenous trees, ensure you are close to the environment yet comfortable. Inside your tent you’ll find crisp sheets, a storage trunk, and a shaded deck framing views of the waterways. The en-suite bathroom, with its outdoor bucket shower and running water, blends bush authenticity with comfort.

Guiding here is intimate: with a maximum of two guests per guide, you’ll set off at dawn for a bush walk across islands and floodplains, returning for a late breakfast. In the afternoon you might drift in a mokoro along channels, gliding silently among reeds, hippos, birdlife, and the occasional elephant track.

The camp’s philosophy emphasises minimal environmental impact: solar-powered systems, no motorised activity, and a conscious blending with nature.

At sunset, the raised viewing decks become evocative places to sip a drink, listen to the hippos and watch the sky shift colour across the landscape.

While the style is modest compared with ultra-luxury lodges, the experience here feels authentic, escapist and deeply rooted in place. You’ll feel the delta’s hum underfoot, the reed channels around you, and the vastness of the wilderness in every direction.

Dining

Meals are wholesome and freshly prepared. Dining takes place in a communal area overlooking the Boro Channel. There’s an honesty bar system for drinks.

The approach is relaxed — you’ll relish waffles at breakfast, brunch on the deck, and informal dinners under the stars.

Our View:

"Oddballs’ Camp stands out in its ability to combine genuine wilderness immersion with comfortable tented accommodation and thoughtful guiding. It’s perhaps not for those seeking marble-floored luxury or large-scale resort amenities, but for the safari-traveller who values deep nature-connection, walking rather than driving, silence rather than engines, and family-friendly yet adventurous settings. It delivers strong value in what is often a premium region, and for that reason it’s a compelling choice."
